Hi, my name is

Mike DiCarlo

Engineering Leader, CTO & Founder

Co-founder and CTO of Wurthy, building AI to power the full SMB financial stack. Over two decades I've led engineering and risk at Lyft, Metromile, and Path — scaling teams and products from zero to tens of millions of users.

01About

I'm an engineering leader and founder with more than two decades of experience building and scaling technology — from data centers and batch compute clusters at Intel to AI-driven products at Lyft and Wurthy.

I've led teams of engineers, data scientists, and product managers through every stage: founding companies, taking them public, and selling them. Along the way I helped grow Path to over 60 million users, built world-class insurance and road-safety programs at Lyft, and helped remake the insurance industry at Metromile.

Today I'm co-founder and CTO at Wurthy, building AI to power the full SMB financial stack. I also build independent products in the AI and data space — a couple of them are in the projects section below.

02Experience

  1. Co-founder / CTO · Wurthy

    2022 — Present

Building AI to power the full SMB financial stack.

  2. Sr Director, Risk · Lyft

    2018 — 2024

Led teams of exceptional software engineers, data scientists, and product managers to build world-class insurance and road-safety programs. Our technologies streamlined claims, reduced costs, prevented fraud, and leveraged driving telemetry and kinematics to enhance road safety — helping prevent accidents and save lives.

  3. VP Engineering · Metromile

    2016 — 2018

Remade an industry alongside some of the most talented software engineers and data scientists. Metromile went public in February 2021 and was acquired by Lemonade in July 2022.

  4. VP Engineering · Breadcrumb Point of Sale

    2015 — 2016

Joined to spin Breadcrumb out of Groupon as a stand-alone business. In six months we extracted the business and technology stack from Groupon data centers into AWS, rebuilding complex infrastructure from the ground up.

  5. Director of Engineering · Path

    2012 — 2015

Path was the first mobile-only social network and set the standard for mobile design. We grew its social and messaging apps to over 60 million users globally with a tiny team of talented engineers and designers. Path was sold to Kakao in 2015.

  6. Director of Production Operations · Marin Software

    2010 — 2012

Managed and provided technical leadership for the production operations team, with engineers in San Francisco, New York, and Sweden.

  7. Founder & CEO · RelyNet, Inc.

    2003 — 2010

A SaaS provider with a catalog of products catering to high-traffic, high-performance web properties, plus RelyNet Data Centers for server colocation. Acquired by Internet Brands, Inc. in 2007.

  8. Co-Founder · BeenUp2.com

    2007 — 2010

A photo-centric social utility using camera-enabled phones to help people stay in touch with friends, family, and fans. Basically Path before its time.

  9. Sr Systems Engineer · Intel Corporation

    2000 — 2003

Migrated Intel's simulation compute infrastructure from SunOS/SPARC to Linux/x86, designing the new platform from the ground up — including a large-scale batch compute cluster for chip-design simulations requiring extensive memory and months-long CPU runtimes.
